The Auto Repair Shop That Answers at Midnight

Car broke down at 11 PM. She googled repair shops, found one with a chatbot that answered her questions. Booked for 7 AM.

Sarah's car made a grinding noise on her drive home. By the time she pulled into her driveway at 11 PM, something was clearly wrong.

She needed a mechanic. Tomorrow morning, first thing.

The Late-Night Search

She grabbed her phone and googled "auto repair near me." Five results. She started clicking.

Shop 1: Closed. "Call us during business hours: Mon-Fri 8-5." Voicemail.

Shop 2: Website from 2012. Phone number, address, a stock photo of a car. No idea what they charge or if they can see her tomorrow.

Shop 3: Facebook page. Last post was from six months ago. No response to her message.

Shop 4: Nice website, but the contact form said "We'll respond within 1-2 business days." She needed help in 8 hours, not 2 days.

Shop 5: A chat bubble popped up. She typed: "My car is making a grinding noise. Can I bring it in tomorrow morning?"

The chatbot replied instantly. Described their diagnostic process, gave a price range for common brake issues (since grinding usually means brakes), confirmed they open at 7 AM and accept walk-ins, and mentioned they'd call with an estimate before doing any work.

Sarah booked a 7 AM drop-off right there.

What Made the Difference

It wasn't the fanciest website. It wasn't the cheapest shop. It was the only one that gave her answers at 11 PM.

The shop owner, Dave, had set up DropBot with about 15 Q&A pairs. Common problems, pricing ranges, hours, warranty policy, payment options. Took him 20 minutes.

He told us later: "I had no idea people were looking for mechanics at midnight. But it makes sense - that's when your car breaks down. Not conveniently at 2 PM on a Tuesday."

The Numbers

Dave checked his chatbot stats after the first month. 40% of his chatbot conversations happened between 8 PM and 7 AM.

Forty percent. Nearly half his potential customers were reaching out when his shop was dark and his phone was off.

Before the chatbot, those people were finding other shops. Or putting off the repair. Or calling the first place that opened in the morning - which might not be Dave's shop.

The Takeaway

Car trouble doesn't happen during business hours. Neither does the decision about where to get it fixed.

The shop that answers at midnight gets the 7 AM appointment. Every time.
